Tooth whitening
Tooth whitening: A conservative approach.

A beautiful smile tends to be associated with health, self-confidence, and happiness, and because of this, it influences a persons self-esteem and even social perception by others. Among many other treatment options for obtaining a beautiful smile, tooth whitening is a relatively cost-effective, minimallyinvasive, and highly effective treatment method. The success rate depends mainly on the type of discolouration and ranges from 90 to 97 per cent. Satisfactory retention of the colour can be expected for one to three years and may last up to ten years posttreatment.

Sensitivity of the tooth and irritation of the gingiva are common during tooth whitening; however, all side effects cease upon completion of treatment. Nevertheless, a comprehensive examination followed by proper consultation is required to meet the patients aesthetic expectations with an emphasis on maximum conservation of healthy dental tissue.
