El artículo de portada del doctor Irfan Ahmad en el nuevo número de Dental Tribune Latinoamérica ofrece una guía práctica que explica los pasos a seguir para conseguir una cementación predecible de restauraciones estéticas indirectas.

El experto escribe que la mayoría de los tratamientos dentales estéticos actuales parten de la odontología estética basada en resinas (Resin-based Aesthetic Dentistry o RES, por sus siglas en inglés). La esencia de la RED es lograr una adhesión eficiente en el sustrato natural del diente, sea esmalte o dentina, para obtener una restauración de larga duración. Esto se aplica tanto a las restauraciones estéticas directas como a las indirectas.

La adhesión al esmalte sigue un protocolo establecido, pero la adhesión a la dentina ha demostrado ser más difícil y ha experimentado considerables cambios. Sin embargo, la mayoría de agentes actuales de adhesión a la dentina (DBA) son capaces de unirse eficazmente, si bien el método para la lograr este objetivo sigue siendo discutible. Algunos expertos defienden el autograbado con DBA, mientras que otros prefieren el grabado total; sólo la investigación aclarará la validez de estos métodos.
