Dental Implants
If you loose the teeth and don’t want to get a denture, a Dental Implant is your options. It’s like planting the root for your tooth, so its strength will be guaranteed, and its look will not differ from the original natural tooth.

What is an implants?
An implant is a procedure to replace the new root for the missing natural tooth with a small titanium screw-shape fixture. The implants support not only a single missing tooth but also a number of teeth. The appearance remains the same or even better because it will replace completely what you have lost naturally. It associates very well with the remaining teeth and you can use it to bite with confidence.

There are 3 parts of implants :
The implant, the replacement of the root portion, this will be put into the bone of the upper or lower jaw
The abutment, will serve as the anchor between the implant and the crown
The crown or tooth, will be fabricated in the dental laboratory, and will be fastened to the abutment

Who is a candidate for dental implants?
The person who lost a tooth or more from disease, decay, or injury may choose the dental implant to replace the missing tooth.
The combination of implants and crown or bridge may be used to replace some or all of the missing teeth.
For some elderly implant may not be recommend but anyway, it’s not that big deal as long as the patient is healthy. The dentist will evaluate the case condition carefully together with the dental and health treatment history before recommending any elderly to get an implant.

Cost of implant?
The expense is different depending on many factors, for example, the number of implants to be used. Before getting an implant some additional treatment may be necessary to strengthen the implant and might cost more. It is be better to get a complete diagnostic examination first, so the proper treatment and the estimate cost can be discussed at this time.

How long last the implants?
You may expect an implant last for your lifetime. An implant can last more than 30 years, more over dental bridges from Nobel Biocare last more than 15 years in 90% of the cases.

The advantages of implant
Comfort improved
It helps to relief the pain and discomfort of those removable dentures and including reduction of the shrinkage of the jaw because it is fixed in the jawbone. It gets rid of the pain from exposition of nerve and gum irritation which often occurs during the use of removable denture.
Speech improved
Teeth are one of the factors which make you pronounce correctly and smoothly. The implant is a complete replacement of the missing structure of mouth so you will be able to speak out clearly and confidently once again.

The Procedure Step by Step
Below is a short step by step description of the procedure1. Examination and planning
From examination and planning through restoration, dental implant treatment usually takes place in our office.
2. Placing dental implants
Under local anesthesia, Dr. Ruelas exposes the jawbone, then inserts the appropriate number of dental implants. In most cases, the patient is able to resume normal activities the next day. Other procedures may be performed at this time like bone grafting, tissue grafting, or sinus lifts. These will have been discussed with you at the time of the treatment planning.
3. Bone Healing
After the dental implants are placed, they are covered with gum tissue while the bone heals. In many cases the dental implants and the abutment can be placed at the same time. During the next three to six months, implants bond with the jawbone. Temporary crowns, bridges or over-dentures are optional during the bone-healing period.
4. Connecting the abutment/Bone Healing
In many cases it is possible to place the abutment at the same time as the implant and a fixed temporary solution may be constructed immediately or within a matter of days. If immediate placement of the abutment is not possible or desired the dental implants are completely covered by the soft tissue while the implants bond with the jawbone. This usually takes three to six months. Different temporary solutions such as crowns, bridges or over-dentures can be used during this time. You will be asked to return to our office for follow-up examinations.
5. Restoration
When the soft tissue has healed, Dr. Ruelas takes impressions that are used in designing the final teeth or prosthesis. The impressions are sent to a dental lab where the crowns (or tooth) portions of the implant are made. Once the crowns are complete, the restorative dentists will attach the crown to the abutment and the process is complete. And you are now ready to enjoy your new beautiful smile.
