Smiles Forever Foundation
Smiles Forever is an American and Bolivian non-profit foundation that works to give opportunity to young indigenous women in Bolivia and to improve the overall oral health of the communities in which they live.
We accomplish this through an educational program that trains needy young indigenous women in the profession of dental hygiene. Smiles Forever Dental Hygiene training focuses on preventive dental care, a service rarely provided in South America. The training offers young women to become dental hygiene practitioners, giving them a skill that provides for higher self-esteem and independence.
As our students graduate the program they return to their home communities to work as dental hygienists, using their educational skills to earn a good salary as respected professionals and to improve the health of the towns and cities they belong to.
Smiles Forever students are taught the importance of serving their communities through our Community Service work, which represents a large part of our educational program. Our students are also leading the way in introducing the profession of dental hygiene to Bolivia, where as of yet it does not exist.
Since Smiles Forever involvement in this community and county the "magic" has unfolded. The two year technical vocational school has had a tremendous impact and an explosive ripple effect within the community. It shows others what amazing changes and dreams can be achieved.
Smiles Forever is encouraged to announce that graduates from the program are all currently employed in private dental offices and clinics in the area; which allows them the chance to build a career, improve their households, community and country.
Smiles Forever is sustained by the help of many US and Bolivian volunteers, financial and in-kind donations, fund raising efforts, Rotary International and grant support. Smiles Forever has built an opportunity to break the cycle of poverty. Contributions have facilitated the achievement of successfully creating a "self-sustaining program" with the newly built fee-for-service dental clinic. This three chair Clinic allows the senior students and staff to work and train in the clinic and provides need dental services to this Bolivian community. All proceeds go back to help run the school and social service community health programs.
Smiles Forever has future plans of taking its educational model to other Latin American countries where professional opportunities for young women are scarce and the need for oral hygiene is great.
Your investment in this humanitarian program helps educate a population and encourage them to develop and value their own country. This website was created and maintained for the purpose of providing information about the various charitable activities of the Smiles Forever Foundation.
